David Jon Gilmour CBE (born 6 March 1946) is an English guitarist, singer, and songwriter who was a member of the rock band Pink Floyd. He joined the band in 1968, shortly before the departure of founding member Syd Barrett. Gilmour's lyrical lead guitar playing, expressive bending, and rich vocal delivery played an essential part in the worldwide success of monumental albums including The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall.
Known for his impeccable tone and emotional guitar solos — most notably in "Comfortably Numb", consistently voted among the greatest rock solos of all time — Gilmour was inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. In 2024, he released his fifth critically acclaimed solo studio album, Luck and Strange.
